The Math of Motion and Change

Calculus allows us to study how things change at an exact moment. It is divided into Differential and Integral calculus.

1. Derivatives (Differential Calculus)

The derivative measures the “rate of change.”

  • Power Rule: \frac{d}{dx}(x^n) = nx^{n-1}

  • Derivative of a Constant: \frac{d}{dx}(c) = 0

  • Product Rule: (fg)' = f'g + fg'

2. Integrals (Integral Calculus)

Integration is the “reverse” of differentiation and is used to find the area under a curve.

  • Basic Integration: \int x^n dx = \frac{x^{n+1}}{n+1} + C
